WHERE EXACTLY ARE YOU LOCATED?

We are located on Playa Platanares, meaning Platanares Beach – although most locals in our area affectionately refer to the beach as Preciosa Beach. It is just 4 kms outside the town of Puerto Jimenez in the southewestern zone of Costa Rica. National Geographic has deemed this area as one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet. 

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?

Our dry season lasts from January to August, and you can expect consistently hot sunny days and warm nights with temperatures ranging from 75-95 F. 

We experience the majority of our rainy season from September until the beginning of December.  Mornings are generally sunny and then by afternoon a rain may appear. October and November are the rainiest months here, they are also our cooler months. In any case the rain here is warm and comes and goes,  there is usually time throughout the day to enjoy different activities. Temperatures can range from 70 – 90 F. 

HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM THE BEACH?

Playa Platanares is steps away from your villa. You can leave your shoes on the patio of your villa and walk barefoot to the beach. 

IS SMOKING ALLOWED?

No, the villas are non-smoking. Costa Rican law prohibits smoking in any public place. Your patio is private and outdoors so if you wish that is where you can indulge. 

WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

We are in the tropics, meaning its hot and humid, so pack lightweight clothing. Casual and comfortable and flowy. Jeans, sweaters, heavy yoga pants don’t belong here.  

Don’t Forget:

• Passport- make sure you know the validity requirements for your country. 
• Bathing suits
• Hat
• Sunglasses
• Sandals
• Walking/running shoes
• Cool, light clothing (long pants and sleeves are useful for adventure activities and evenings)
• Sunscreen + bug spray
• Prescription medications
• Camera (binoculars may come in handy as well)
• A converter is needed for European electrical plugs: Costa Rica has U.S. style 110 volt outlets

MEDICAL SERIVCES

We have a small clinic in the town of Puerto Jimenez. We also have an excellent and private English speaking doctor who can make house calls. 

There are amazing private hospitals in San Jose – a 50 minute plane ride away. A plane can be chartered during the day from Puerto Jimenez to San Jose for emergency evacuations. We also have a hospital in Golfito which is a thirty minute boat ride away – during the day or night.

IS THERE AN ATM NEARBY?

There is an BCR (Banco de Costa Rica) ATM as well as a Banco Nacional ATM on main street Puerto Jimenez. It is best to come to town with some cash even if the majority of restaurants and stores accept credit cards. US Dollars are widely accepted although you will often receive change in colones.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO COME TO THE VILLAS? 

By plane: Puerto Jiménez has its own local airstrip, and domestic flights are 50 minutes from San Jose.  

The closest International airport is in San Jose – SJO Juan Santamaria. This airport is about 5.5 hours away.  You may also choose to rent a car in SJO and make the drive down. The majority of the trip the roads are paved and it is a beautiful drive especially the last hour coming into the Osa Peninsula so be sure you make it in daylight hours for the beautiful views. We can also help arrange a private driver or shuttle from San Jose. 

IS THERE A BABYSITTING OR NANNY SERVICE AVAILABLE?

If you would like support with your children please advise prior to your stay and I can arrange a suitable and trustworthy nanny for you to hire. 

HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM THE BEACH?

Oasis Osa is a 30 second walk to the beach. You don’t even need to take shoes if you don’t want to. 

ARE THERE SHOPS AND AMENITIES IN THE AREA?

Oasis Osa is located just 4 miles from the village of Puerto Jiménez. You can find almost anything you would need for your vacation here. There is one big supermarket, a gas station, pharmacy, a number of small stores, restaurants, tourist shops, a cute coffee shop, smoothie stops and ice cream.

WHEN IS CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT TIME?

Our rooms are ready from 3pm on. Check-out is expected to be by 12pm. Our front desk is occupied 24/7.  Feel free to contact us prior to your stay if we do not have guests in the villa, you are more than welcome to arrive earlier. 

DO YOU HAVE WIFI?

 Yes we do. 

ARE THERE TVS IN THE ROOM?

No.

ARE YOU PET FRIENDLY?

We love animals but unfortunately can’t accommodate pets. We have this policy as others may be allergic and we want to keep the rooms as clean as possible. 

IS THERE LAUNDRY SERVICE AVAILABLE?

Yes, we have a wash and fold service available. 

ARE THE HOTEL ROOMS EQUIPPED WITH SAFES?

Yes.

WHAT WILDLIFE AM I LIKELY TO SEE WHILE AT OASIS OSA?

Tons of birds including the stunning Scarlet Macaw, toucans and parrots among many others. There is the possibility of seeing four different types of monkeys although most often only three of the species visit the area around our home. You may also see a few small mammals and a variety of reptiles. This is an incredibly biodiverse area and we are sure you won’t be disappointed by the nature surrounding you.

IS THE WATER SAFE TO DRINK?

The tap water in the town of Puerto Jiménez is “safe” to drink, but it is recommended that you drink bottled water to avoid taking any chances during your stay.

WHAT IS THE ELECTRICITY LIKE?

The electricity in Costa Rica is 110V. In Puerto Jiménez short power outages are common, so a flashlight is recommended. We have flashlights in the villas as well. 

CAN I RENT A CAR?

If you wish to drive down you can rent a car in San Jose. The drive is approximately 6 hours. You can also rent a car in Puerto Jiménez for travel around the peninsula or the drive back to San Jose. We can assist you with rental needs.
